KPC Exclusive: Obama on the economy, health care, Iraq
KPC Writing - Terry Housholder, Grace Housholder, Dave Kurtz, Mike Marturello and Matt Getts - Thursday afternoon, had a telephone conversation with Senator Barack Obama. The complete interview can hear on the links below. We hope that we further interviews with Senator Hillary Clinton, which manifests itself in competition with democracy Obama nomination for the presidency, Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate suspect.
Indiana, in the first place, is the 6th May.
The following are excerpts from the interview with KPC Obama:
KPC: elections in the past, the north-east of Indiana refused the right, except in difficult economic times. What part of your agenda may be called once again the voters, especially those who are afraid, you are just another tax and liberal?
Obama: First, let me say that I want the voters to reduce their taxes. If the $ 75000 per year or less, we are proposing a tax cut … I was the first in the box to say that the best approach to promote the economy, is a tax rebate, and you will receive more money in the pockets of man. It is true that I would have to re-evaluate the role of tax cuts for people over $ 200000 to $ 250000 per year and include, and I am close certain tax loopholes for businesses …
(I want), investments in infrastructure for people to put on the job market (and) investment in clean energy and reduce gas prices, save our environment and our foreign policy, dependence with respect to foreign oil … If we have the stabilization of the housing market with a plan would help ensure that people stay at home, the real owners of the house as opposed to speculators, I believe we can begin to put our economy on a more favourable .
The most important thing is, make sure the balanced growth … The profits and salaries of business and income for the average family was in fact … It is a recipe for pain and the hardness on Main Street … And this is not the right way forward to develop the economy and long term.
KPC: Health care is an important issue for most voters. More and more doctors are turning to the national health insurance as a solution to our health, gaps in the protection of insurance. According to a survey conducted over the last month reported by the University of Indiana, which represents more than 2000 doctors surveyed, 59 percent indicated that they supported legislation establishing a national health insurance “disease for all” to ensure all Americans. Why do you think your business plan, which is still in the course of our patchwork of both public and private insurance it is better than the enlargement to a “Medicare for all ‘universal health insurance?
Obama: I said in the past, if I develop a system from top to bottom I would probably rather of a single payer. I think the advantages are considerable administrative and patient in a single system, they are much better able to take advantage of preventive care, because the person who has an incentive maintenance.
The problem is that we are not starting from scratch. A large portion of the population, health insurance from their employer, and I think we have another problem to see before we will see a single payer system. I think there are also a number of advantages for the markets, and competition increasingly involved. So, I said, if you are in a plan of the employer at the time, we will be your employer to lower premiums. If you do not have health insurance, you can with a plan which is similar to how the plan that I as a member of Congress, and there is no exclusion for existing conditions. If you can not see the plan, then we will subsidize.
It will work closely provisions relating to the insurer to ensure that the refund for the prevention, stressing that the management of the care of chronically ill and most effective we have investments in technology Information to cut red tape, reduce errors and improvement of quality. If we do all this, we can save as much as $ 100 to $ 150 billion per year, we will be able to subsidize those who, today, without assistance. These principles must be covered by Medicare and Medicaid, as well …
This is the most effective way to help people should cease immediately, and I think that is something that we can not, in my first term as President of the United States of America.
KPC: In the survey, Ambassador Crocker She referred to a force of 30000 troops Do you believe that a goal, and it would be a long-term presence?
Obama: No, it was not the goal. I just wanted Pin-Ambassador Crocker few troops greatly reduced. I was only that, as an example. I did not exactly what it is a residual risk of force might look like, because it would be very good, it all depends on the situation and commanders on the ground, so I was recommended. What I did was clearly define the boundaries of work that I want our troops to accomplish: the protection of our embassy, our employees to protect civilians, have the capacity to support the Iraqi government and al-Qaida, base camp is expected to be erratic again. It is the magnitude of the task.
What is the exact number, it would depend on how well we have … The initiative is the nature of … Diplomatic increase has been discussed, but has not been implemented effectively in the region.
KPC: One of the TV spots, we see in Indiana indicates that you are tough with the oil companies. How can we do if we do not have a good alternative to gasoline?
Obama: There are several approaches in the short term. For example, oil companies have not invested in the increase in refining capacity, we need, because all the benefits they rely on … (It was a) the possibility of a “wind of cases of tax benefit, which would be used both to invest in refining capacity and alternative fuels.
It is important to recognize that we are not able to simply increase security of supply. We have to lower demand. That is why I am also a strong emphasis on raising standards of fuel efficiency in cars. If you have a better fuel efficiency in the car at 40 mpg we would be the equivalent of all the oil we import from the Persian Gulf. That would have a huge impact on the world and on the ground in oil prices would immediately lead to lower gas prices. It is something that we can do immediately. Our technology is obvious to the achievement of these goals.
In the long term, we must invest in research on biodiesel, biomass and new forms of ethanol and the possibility of further vehicles, plug-in-hybrid, which is between 100 and 150 miles per gallon.
In response to the questions below, as Obama, it would again fund (which was shut down by President Bush), the methods of combating the laboratories, because he saw in Illinois meth problems similar to problems we live. It further noted, Senator Richard Lugar, R-Ind. Eastern a prominent senator, which he appreciated the work and travel in a personal capacity, she worked in the next phase of what was Nunn-Lugar , and it is now Lugar-Obama. Lugar Obama is of the legislation, while removing the potential impact of nuclear materials and weapons that could fall into the hands of terrorists.
Obama said that if successful “examine how a person of Dick Lugar an important position in my administration.”
